Abstract
Plummer Vinson Syndrome (PVS) is a rare illness. PVS is most frequently observed in women between the ages of 40. Exact pathogenesis of PVS is still not know but it is interconnected with iron deficiency Anaemia. One of the important features of PVS is Dysphagia which is because of Post Cricoid web. Hypothyroidism is the term for a condition in which the body produces less thyroid hormone. It is believed that thyroid hormone is necessary for bone marrow to undergo proper erythropoiesis. Thyroid hormone increases the production of erythropoietin and directly stimulates the proliferation of erythrocyte precursors. Additionally, it has been shown that anaemia frequently coexists with thyroid conditions. Anaemia associated with Hypothyroidism is extremely rare presentation of PVS, and there are no cases documented in medical literature.1 This was a case of Anaemia associated with Hypothyroidism. A 42 year female patient referred to our department for the complaints of dysphagia. Incidentally patient was having hypothyroidism, and her blood reports shows Anaemia. There is corelation between Hypothyroidism and iron deficiency Anemia.so we kept our provisional diagnosis as PVS for which upper GI Endoscopy was done which suggestive of post cricoid web. After confirming diagnosis as PVS treatment was started to correct Anaemia with Hypothyroidism. This rare presentation of Hypothyroidism WITH PVS should be considered during diagnosis of PVS in patients with chronic Anaemia.
