Abstract

Cannabis is recently being used by more than 180 million people around the world and considered as the most common psychotropic drug. The US govt. has legalized the use of cannabis, and the consumption rate has increased significantly. The medicinal use of cannabis has also been found in ancient times of India, China, Egypt, and Rome. The cannabis plant has three different species, cannabis sativa, cannabis indica, and cannabis rudralis. Cannabis sativa is the one that’s best known for its commercial use. The sativa species consists of five hundred and forty natural compounds, which are further classified as cannabinoids. The route of administration of cannabinoids in the US is through oral and topical method. The objective of this cannabinoids might demonstrate the reduction of the intraocular pressure, but their use is limited by the significant number of side effects. It is important to evaluate and identify the scientific evidence of medical use of cannabis and its side effects in the long duration of Glaucoma treatment.
